The Red Cross, following in the footsteps of American Idol, has set up a system where you can make a $10 donation to help their efforts in Haiti by texting the word “haiti” to 90999 on your phone.  The charge appears on your next phone bill.

This is a fucking brilliant fundraising system:

- It’s nearly instant, meaning that while the images are still fresh, and donor motivation is highest, the capacity to donate is set up.

- It works to people’s apathy, ie. you don’t actually have to get off your ass and do anything.

- It works to people’s preference of spending now, but actually paying later.

It’s so easy I couldn’t resist. Do iiiit.
